Rocky Hickman, LCpl, usmc

Rocky Hickman was born and raised in Kellyville, OK. He found rodeo early and competed in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association for 10 years. He also competed in high school rodeo and qualified for the Oklahoma High School Finals in 1976. Rocky enlisted in the Unites States Marine Corps in 1977.

He attended boot camp at MCRD San Diego, CA and was assigned to the Recon Marines at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. It didn’t take Rocky long to find military rodeo as he went to the Hiscock practice arena in Fallbrook, CA and met Major Rex Robison who was a SB rider. He would go on to win the 1978 Yuma Jaycees Military World Finals Rodeo BR and AA titles. In 1979 he would win the Camp Pendleton BR and AA titles and the 29 Palms BR and AA titles. With the backing of his command, Rocky would fill his PRCA permit and was the 1979 PRCA Sierra Circuit Rookie of the Year in BR.

After leaving the military in 1980, Rocky continued his PRCA career with trips to Calgary, Denver, Ft. Worth, Cheyenne, Houston, Salinas and the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

When his competition days were over, Rocky worked as an asbestos removal contractor and fought a battle with cancer in 2015 that is now in remission. He currently spends his time providing home health care for his mother.
