Greg Richins, PO3, USN

All Around* Inducted 2021

Greg Richins was born the 9th of 10 children to Army veteran Bill Richins and his wife Helen in 1965. He spent several summers in Wyoming with his uncle where he was first introduced to rodeo as a calf rider at 4 years old. Greg continued his interest in rodeo through high school and placed 3rd in BR for the State of Utah and went on to compete at the National High School Rodeo Finals in 1984.

Greg joined the USN in 1988 and attended training as an Aviation Structural Mechanic at NSA Mid-South in Millington, TN. He was then assigned to NAS North Island in San Diego, CA.

When he was introduced to Military Rodeo in 1989, he quickly achieved success competing in BB, SB, and BR. He won the Beale AFB AA and Lakeside, CA BR in 1989 and qualified for his first World Finals Rodeo where he won the BR Average in 1989. 1990 was a big year as Greg won the Camp Pendleton BB, SB, BR, and AA titles. He earned a second Camp Pendleton AA title in 1991. Greg finished 1991 winning the MRCA World Finals BR Average and becoming only the 3rd cowboy in Military Rodeo history to win 3 titles in one year as he won SB, BR, and AA World Championships.

After leaving the USN in 1992, Greg spent most of his time riding in the PRCA where he won the Wilderness Circuit BR title in 1993 and earned an invitation to the PRCA RAM National Circuit Finals where he placed 8th.

Greg retired from Bull Riding in 2003 and has worked as a Union Iron Worker and most recently at a blast hole driller in Utah.
