Wayne Boney was introduced to equine events and rodeo early on in his hometown of Benton, LA. He competed in open rodeos during his teen years and continued to compete after he joined the USAF. He competed in many rodeo associations while stationed at Minot AFB, ND, McConnell AFB, KS, Norton AFB, CA and McClellan AFB, CA. He discovered military rodeo while stationed at Norton AFB in 1991 and quickly became known as a top military competitor.
Wayne may be the most decorated cowboy in Military Rodeo Cowboys Association (MRCA) history as he owns or is tied for almost every military rodeo record. He has qualified for the MRCA World Finals Rodeo (WFR) in BB, BR, CD and TR. He holds the MRCA record with 18 total WFR qualifications and qualified in 3 events in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995. Wayne is one of only two cowboys to win the prestigious Camp Pendleton rodeo BR in back-to-back years and also took the AA in 1994. He is a 5 time MRCA World Champion earning the AA title in 1992, BB, BR and AA in 1993 and the CD title in 1995.
When asked to serve as Director of Rodeo Administration on the Board of Directors for the MRCA in 1993, Wayne dedicated himself to helping grow the organization and served in this capacity for 8 years. He was asked to reprise this role again in 2018. Wayne is also on the Board of Directors for the Military Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame.
After retiring from the Air Force, Wayne worked as a consultant and in various supply chain management roles. He has continued to be a part of rodeo as a competitor and as a staff instructor for Sankey Rodeo Schools.
