Brad McCassie was born in West Palm Beach, FL in 1963. He competed in multiple sports growing up and started competing in open rodeos during high school. In 1981 Brad saw a recruiting magazine with a story about the Camp Pendleton rodeo and this led him to a recruiting office to join the Marine Corps because he wanted to ride while serving.
Upon enlistment, Brad graduated boot camp at MCRD Parris Island, SC. After a stop at the Navy Supply School in Meridian, MS learning the ins and outs of being a supply clerk he was stationed at MCAS Tustin, CA. It was here that he met future Hall of Famers Ceaser Ozuna and Freddie Waltz and joined the Tustin rodeo team helping them become a threat to the team title each year. Brad would go on to compete at most of the military rodeos held in the southwest at the time. He competed in both BB and BR from 1981 to 1985.
Brad entered and placed at the Yuma Jaycees Military World Championship rodeo in 1982, 1983, and 1984 while also competing at places like Gilbert and Tucson, AZ, 29 Palms, CA and others. But he saved his best efforts for the Camp Pendleton rodeo which he won a record three times in the BR and added an All-Around title to accomplish that dream started by a recruiting magazine article. To cap off his military rodeo career, Brad won the Military Rodeo Association World Bull Riding title in 1985.
After separating from the USMC in 1985, Brad continued to compete in IPRA and PRCA rodeos for several years as he began a new career in Phoenix, AZ where he would meet his wife and raise a family. He is an active supporter of the HOF providing historical documents and pictures to help tell the story of those who have rode and served.
